The Great Binary Divide This rather simple narrative exhibits the interrelationship
between order and chaos. On one level, I see chaos as harboring the conditions
of possibility for order. Not only for order to spring out of it but for
chaos itself to order, even in a chaotic fashion. Yet I, as we
all do, bring my fetish for order, my will to order, in play. How else
can I and my students deal with the situation unless there is some order,
some structure? Why could I not let chaos take care of itself? Order however
it happened to order-- whether orderly or chaotic? A provisional answer--chaos
and order are but two levels of the same thing, even though we have drawn
the line of the great binary divide between them and can no longer see
them as such.
