[When we look at gendered images of
technology in the media, we find the use of metaphors
ranging from "unconventional woman" to the
"Virgin of Guadeloupe."] We need to teach
and explore both of these images with our students.
We need to complicate our visions of easy
empowerment. There's no "true" type of
woman. We're walking a fine line between configuring
an identity that is sometimes nice and sometimes
fierce. We need to understand how persuasive these
images will be in any given context (and why).
