Carl, In my experience one of the most frequent problems that prevents tutors and writing instructors from developing Kairos is the knee-jerk reaction of tutor/instructor--developed over years and years of being a student--to prove to the client that WE know the answer--as if WE were the student, the one obligated to provide answers--rather than seeing that our obligation is to teach the student/client how to address a writing problem. If we can give ourselves permission to focus on what the student needs to be able to do in order to write better, then a sense of kairos can begin to kick in. Or at least that's how I see it. --sharon wright, osu-okc.
